The old Ledges camp site. My blue Sierra tent is barely visible in the middle of the photograph.

The first time I went to the "Bruce" was in May of 1996. It was a bit chilly the night I camped on the Ledges, and I was almost alone. Having arrived the previous day from Detroit, I camped overnight at Cyprus Lake, in the drive-in campground.

I explored the trail that runs along the bluff on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, looking down from numerous vantage points 300 feet into the blue green water. My plan was to dayhike from the Cyprus Lake campground all the way to High Dump, five miles southeasterly along the bluff.
