The Chessmen

This view of Mt. Dallymore resulted from a lovely scramble in the summer of 1999. We camped above Pine Creek the evening before, and scrambled up a steep hill to the base of Dallymore. Reconnoitering along the edge of the rock showed no easy route to the top, as we had hoped. We walked along the entire visible side shown in this photograph, but could find no weakness in the large cliifs towering over our heads. Around the left end of the rock, there is a beautiful natural formation.

The next morning we had a leisurely breakfast, and scrambled up a gully to this vantage point on the nameless rock next door.
