Black Hills streams are nationally known for their excellent trout fishing. Most days a fly fisherman can get into his favorite spot without ever seeing another angler. My Uncle Roland Schmidt introduced me to the sport long ago. His approach to fly fishing is simple and rewarding... most days just being on the stream leaves us feeling good.

Some of the streams we like:

  • Ditch Creek, Northeast of Deerfield Lake
  • Castle Creek, both above and below
    Deerfield Lake
  • Rhoads Fork, although this can be spotty
    some years
  • Spring Creek south of Hill City

You can expect to find brookies, browns and rainbows populating the Hills streams. Although they rarely get above 12" in length, sometimes you get lucky and catch a two pound brown.
